Hi there! My name is Jess and I am the human and animal mother of Juni Acres. My daughter, Saida Juni, was the beginning of it all for us. Between our love for animals and the idea of knowing where our food comes from, buying some land was the perfect move for us.
So, we left our apartment and made a home on our own piece of land. Then we purchased six chicks, which eventually turned into more chickens, some goats, a few pigs, and maybe a bunny or four. We’ve grown so much that let’s just say we’re currently clearing brush on the property to make some extra room. After having my son, I feel like I can now focus more of my attention to our health and the animals that we raise.
My goal is to get a garden going, and to eventually be able to grow and raise the majority of the food we eat. I am a mother before all else, so giving my kids the opportunity to learn first hand how to grow food and take care of the animals is a dream come true.
We have a long road ahead, but every day is a step forward thanks to the homesteading community I’ve found. I hope whoever comes across this will follow along on our journey or even just let this help inspire you to move closer to your goals. Through trial and error (which I’m sure there will be a lot of here) anyone can lead a more self sufficient life.
